Busan Institute to Host 'WCE CCU Forum'... Discussing Industrial Transformation of Arctic Sea Route and CCU Technology
The Busan Institute (President Shin Hyunseok) will co-host the "2025 WCE CCU Forum" with Busan Metropolitan City and Pusan National University at 4:00 p.m. on August 28 at Exhibition Hall 1 of BEXCO.
This forum will be held under the theme "Industrial Transformation and Carbon Neutrality in the Southeast Region through the Commercialization of CCU, a Core Green Growth Technology in Preparation for the Opening of the Arctic Sea Route."
The forum will begin with opening remarks by Shin Hyunseok, President of the Busan Institute, followed by congratulatory speeches from National Assemblyman Kim Yongtae, Pusan National University Vice President Park Sanghoo, and Song Sangkeun, CEO of Busan Port Authority. Next, Kim Youngseok, Busan Representative of the Korea RE100 Council, will deliver a presentation on "Reevaluating the Role of the Arctic Sea Route and CCU in the Southeast Region," and Professor Kim Junghyun of Pusan National University Hydrogen Ship Technology Center will present on "Eco-Friendly Ships and CCU Technology for Marine Carbon Neutrality."
Additionally, Han Sungjong, former director of the Ship and Offshore Plant Research Institute, will introduce the "Floating Platform Construction Project for Supplying E-Fuel to Ships Navigating the Arctic Sea Route."
The panel discussion will be chaired by Professor Kim Jungrae of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Pusan National University, with participation from Choi Yoonchan, Head of Planning at Busan Carbon Neutrality Support Center; Kim Cheonguk, CEO of Sunbo Unitech; Lee Kangwoo, CEO of Sunjin Environment; and Pyo Jungkyu, Director of the KNN Gyeongnam Headquarters News Bureau. The panel will engage in an in-depth discussion on CCU-based carbon neutrality strategies for the marine industry and strategies for establishing Busan as an eco-friendly hub for the Arctic Sea Route.
Shin Hyunseok, President of the Busan Institute, stated, "This forum will serve as an opportunity to explore strategies for achieving carbon neutrality in the marine industry using CCU technology and for Busan to emerge as a key hub on the Arctic Sea Route."

This forum will be held during the "World Climate Industry Expo (WCE)," co-hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the International Energy Agency, and the World Bank. The WCE will take place at BEXCO from August 27 to 29, featuring participation from leading domestic and international companies in various fields such as clean energy, AI, future mobility, environment, marine, and meteorology.
