Busan Regional Veterans Affairs Office to Hold 115th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony of the National Humiliation of 1910
Hosted by the Busan Branch of the Liberation Association
Reflecting on History with the Cold Rice Porridge Ceremony
The Busan Regional Veterans Affairs Office of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (Director Namil Lee) announced on the 25th that it will hold the '115th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony of the National Humiliation of 1910' together with the Busan Branch of the Liberation Association at the Busan Liberation Memorial Hall at 11 a.m. on the 29th.
Prior to the memorial ceremony, a pre-ceremony tribute will take place at the memorial tablet enshrinement room of the Liberation Memorial Hall. The event will be attended by around 100 people, including the Director of the Veterans Affairs Office and key guests, and will proceed in the following order: national ceremony, a report on the history and progress of the National Humiliation of 1910, opening remarks, memorial address, and a group singing of the Independence Army Song.
The 'eating of cold rice porridge' event, prepared after the ceremony, is intended to reflect on the humiliation and pain of the National Humiliation Day, when the nation lost its sovereignty, and to reaffirm the commitment to remember the spirit of independence.
'National Humiliation Day' refers to the tragic history of August 29, 1910, when Japan forcibly signed the Japan-Korea Annexation Treaty and deprived Korea of its sovereignty. Since 2011, the Busan Branch of the Liberation Association has held commemorative events every year on this day, sharing with the local community the resolve not to repeat this painful history.
