The Busan Institute of Science and Technology for Higher Education Promotion (President Kim Youngbu, BISTEP) has published Issue 6 of the 'MONTHLY S&T POLICY REPORT,' which examines domestic and international science and technology policies and trends.
This report highlights the discussion surrounding the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan as a key issue. It recommends the establishment of integrated central-local governance, expansion of financial support for the maritime sector, and the advancement of maritime R&D as necessary steps for Busan to emerge as a global maritime city.
The analysis suggests that relocating the Ministry could help bridge the gap between policy and practice, and serve as an opportunity for Busan to leverage its existing infrastructure to enhance its status as an international maritime city.
The report also covers trends in 'urban cooling technologies' aimed at mitigating urban heat islands, as well as developments in the field of radiological medical science. In the urban cooling section, it presents climate change response strategies that Busan could consider, based on overseas city cases. In the radiological medical science section, it reviews current medical and industrial applications and explores the potential for Busan to expand its role in AI-based radiological medicine.
President Kim Youngbu stated, "The MONTHLY S&T POLICY REPORT is a resource that communicates trends in science and technology policy both in Korea and abroad in an accessible way for citizens," adding, "I hope it will serve as a useful reference not only for experts but also for the general public."
