Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Liberation... Support Provided in Daejeon, Jeungpyeong, and Other Areas
Utilizing the "1% Happiness Sharing Fund" Raised from Employee Salaries

SK Innovation has launched a project to improve the housing conditions of descendants of independence patriots in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation.

On August 8, SK Innovation announced that it will carry out renovations on the aging homes of four generations of independence patriot descendants in areas such as Daejeon and Jeungpyeong, Chungbuk, by the end of the year. This initiative was proposed and voluntarily participated in by SK Innovation employees. Korea Habitat, a nonprofit organization specializing in residential welfare, will oversee the construction, while SK Innovation executives and employees will directly participate in tasks such as wallpapering and clearing waste materials alongside construction companies. The project’s budget of 100 million won will be funded by the “1% Happiness Sharing Fund,” which is raised by collecting 1% of employees’ salaries.

Previously, starting in May, SK Innovation has been working to improve the home of the descendants of the late patriot Kyung Heo, who lived in Seosan, Chungnam. On August 7, a dedication ceremony was held at the remodeled house. Mr. Heo was arrested by the Japanese authorities in 1937 while participating in the independence movement in Hongseong, Chungnam, and was awarded a Presidential Citation in 2018 for contributing his entire fortune to the cause of independence.

SK Innovation plans to expand its housing support projects in the future to include not only descendants of independence patriots, but also families of war veterans, police officers, firefighters, and other national heroes. Junhyun Ahn, Head of Communications at SK Innovation, said, "We will continue to carry out a variety of social contribution activities for local communities in the future."
