Governor Park Wansu Requests National Funding for Key Gyeongnam Issues from Deputy Prime Minister for Economy
On August 7, Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, met with Koo Yooncheol, Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Minister of Economy and Finance, at the Government Seoul Office to discuss key local issues and request national budget support for the following year.
Governor Park emphasized the need for national funding, focusing on securing government funds for the early opening of the Southern Inland Railway, flood prevention measures, and fostering strategic industries.

View original imageGovernor Park stated, "The Southern Inland Railway, which will dramatically improve connectivity between the capital region and the southern inland, requires the government's keen attention to open by 2030," and requested that 300 billion won for next year's construction costs be included in the government budget.
Referring to the extreme heavy rainfall that hit Gyeongnam in July, he also said, "The government must provide practical support to prevent disasters like the recent flood damage in Gyeongnam from recurring."
He added, "I hope the central government will also pay close attention to building the foundation for Gyeongnam's future growth."

View original imageAt the meeting, Governor Park also requested a proactive review of flood recovery and prevention measures, including: ▲raising the housing restoration cost for special disaster areas affected by heavy rain ▲support for dredging local rivers ▲upgrading Deokcheongang and Yangcheongang in Sancheong to national rivers ▲integrating the management system of drainage stations ▲support for replacing outdated pumps.
He also proposed four national projects totaling 7.3 billion won to the government, presenting the aerospace, shipbuilding, defense, and nuclear power industries, along with the fisheries sector, as future growth engines.
The projects include: ▲establishing an advanced aerospace incubating center in Sacheon ▲creating a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) cluster for naval vessels ▲building a support center for testing and inspection of small modular reactor (SMR) manufacturing components ▲and forming a specialized fisheries food cluster for K-oyser (oysters).

Governor Park stated, "Gyeongnam is ready to become a hub for the aerospace industry," and added, "Shipbuilding, defense, nuclear power, and fisheries also possess world-class competitiveness, so active government support is essential."
