Kakao Pay unveiled its 'Payment MCP' and Agent Toolkit, which will serve as the foundation for artificial intelligence (AI) payments, on August 7.
MCP is a communication protocol that standardizes interactions between AI models and external tools or data. Payment MCP is a technology that securely connects AI agents with payment application programming interfaces (APIs).
In addition, the company released the Agent Toolkit. This toolkit enables users to easily implement payment functions by communicating with AI chatbots in natural language.
On the same day, Kakao Pay also demonstrated an integrated system where an AI agent and the payment system are connected using the Agent Toolkit.
When users made payment-related requests in natural language, such as "Create a payment link" or "Cancel the payment," the AI agent provided real-time guidance for these services.
