Sangkap Lee, 58, former Deputy Mayor for Culture and Economy of Gwangju City, has been officially appointed as Director of the Inspection Office at the National Intelligence Service.
According to a report by OhmyNews on July 23, Sangkap Lee, the newly appointed Director of the Inspection Office, reported for his first day of work on this day and received his letter of appointment from National Intelligence Service Director Jongseok Lee. The Director of the Inspection Office is one of the "Big 5" key positions within the National Intelligence Service and is responsible for overseeing internal inspection and audit operations.
Originally from Shinan, Jeollanam-do, he graduated from Seoseok High School in Gwangju and the Department of Political Science at Seoul National University. After completing graduate studies at the Chonnam National University School of Law, he completed the 28th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute and worked as a lawyer. He previously served as head of the Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of Lawyers for a Democratic Society (Minbyun) and as chair of the Human Rights Committee of the Gwangju Bar Association.
During the Moon Jae-in administration, he served as Chair of the Human Rights and Legal Aid Committee at the Ministry of Justice. Most recently, he worked for about one year as Deputy Mayor for Culture and Economy of Gwangju City.
Meanwhile, this appointment is being seen as a significant personnel move that demonstrates the Lee Jaemyung administration's commitment to reforming the National Intelligence Service.
