Gwangju Employers Federation: "Livelihood Recovery Consumer Coupons Should Be Used First in Traditional Markets"
The Gwangju Employers Federation announced on the 20th, "Due to recent localized torrential downpours, traditional markets such as Malbau Market and Yangdong Market, as well as small business owners, are facing difficulties. Therefore, consumer coupons for livelihood recovery should be used to prioritize support for the affected areas."
In a press release issued on this day, the Gwangju Employers Federation stated, "Since weather observations began in 1939, this is the highest level of concentrated rainfall exceeding 400mm, resulting in flooding for small business owners and surrounding shops. We will participate in the recovery efforts for affected merchants and residents." The federation also emphasized, "To revitalize the stagnant local economy, consumer coupons for livelihood recovery should be used first in the affected areas, such as traditional markets and food alleys."
The first round of consumer coupons can be applied for via credit or debit card recharge, local gift certificates, or prepaid cards. The application period runs from July 21 to August 12, and applications can be submitted both online and offline. The consumer coupons can only be used within the issuing local government, and in the case of Gwangju, they are available in all five districts.
The Gwangju Employers Federation made several suggestions to the government to help traditional market merchants and small business owners in the affected areas recover quickly: ▲ Prompt declaration of special disaster zones in flood-affected areas to enable national-level support ▲ Korea Customs Service support for companies affected by heavy rain (such as extension of payment deadlines and suspension of investigations) ▲ Provision of disaster recovery loans from banks at low interest rates without collateral ▲ Reduction or exemption of utility bills such as electricity and health insurance premiums.
Yang Jinseok, Chairman of the Gwangju Employers Federation, said, "I hope for a swift return to normal life," and added, "Together with our member companies, we will actively appeal to the government and local authorities for economic support so that small business owners can overcome these challenges."
