Shinhan University (President Kang Sungjong) announced on June 12 that it will hold the launching ceremony for the ‘Tsushima Peace Vision Journey’ on June 13 at the round theater in the Ebenezer Hall of Shinhan University.
This event is the official kick-off for the ‘Tsushima Peace Vision Journey,’ a large-scale global peace education program in which about 1,000 freshmen will participate. The event commemorates the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan and aims to heal the wounds of the past together and open a new chapter in history for both countries.
Under the theme ‘The Steps of the Next Generation Opening the Future,’ this project will see first-year Shinhan University students visit Tsushima Island in Japan and participate in activities such as historical reflection, cultural exchange, and environmental volunteering.
Going beyond a simple field trip, the program is designed as an active, student-led initiative in which students plan, prepare, and put their ideas into practice. It is attracting attention as a future-oriented educational model that fosters both peace sensitivity and global citizenship.
The launching ceremony will be hosted by a student emcee and will feature a ceremonial performance by the Shinhan University etiquette team, a special performance by the faculty, a reading of the departure declaration by a student representative, and the announcement of the vision statement, in that order.
President Kang Sungjong stated, “This Tsushima project is a representative global program that embodies Shinhan University’s philosophy of practical peace education. It will be a valuable experience for students to learn about the history of the past and grow into agents who design the peace of the future themselves.”
He continued, “Shinhan University is redefining the essence of education as ‘challenge, participation, and empathy,’ realizing the spirit of the times in which students become the main agents of education. This Tsushima history and peace journey will be the first step in proving to the world that the young generation of Korea is leading the way toward peace.”
This freshmen journey will be divided into three groups, with sequential visits to Tsushima Island scheduled from June 24 to July 4.
On site, the program will go beyond historical exploration to include environmental clean-up activities, multicultural exchanges, K-POP performances, Taekwondo demonstrations, and various culture and arts programs by academic major, providing a wide range of educational and cultural content.
