The agency, currently located in the Daedeok Research and Development Special Zone in Yuseong-gu, has faced criticism for geographic limitations in supporting small business owners, employment, and small and medium-sized enterprises. There have also been ongoing concerns about administrative inefficiency due to the organization being spread across seven facilities, including the headquarters.
To improve accessibility for citizens and enhance organizational efficiency, the city plans to relocate the headquarters to the Daejeon Knowledge Industry Center in Daedong, Dong-gu, Daejeon, by September.
The relocation will include key departments such as the president of the agency, the planning team, and the Small Business Support Headquarters. The agency aims to complete the setup of office spaces by August and begin full-scale on-site administration at the Daejeon Knowledge Industry Center starting in September.
The existing headquarters in the Daedeok Special Zone will continue to maintain its current functions, with essential personnel remaining on site to support tenant companies and manage facilities. The city also plans to review a long-term relocation plan, including the integrated relocation of the Daejeon Job Support Center in Jung-gu.
Mayor Lee Jangwoo stated, "A city should embrace its institutions, and institutions should serve the citizens, with the original downtown at the heart of it all," adding, "We will continue to promote balanced urban development and administrative innovation that citizens can truly experience."
