As the market size of the fitness industry has recently expanded and business models utilizing freelance personnel (such as trainers and membership sales staff) have become more common, the event was organized to address and raise awareness of various legal risks, including "employee versus contractor," "minimum wage," "weekly holiday allowance," and "unfair dismissal." The lecture was conducted by certified labor attorney Seo Eunsong, and featured case-based presentations as well as heated discussions among participants.
The lecture covered the distinction and criteria between employees and freelancers (Labor Standards Act), issues related to minimum wage, weekly holiday allowance, and the four major insurances (such as working more than 15 hours a week, weekly holiday allowance, hourly wage calculation, fixed salary, and performance-based pay), followed by discussions. In the subsequent session, a case study and discussion were held on various precedents and examples related to consignment contracts (work instructions, attendance, duty clauses, non-compete and penalty clauses, etc.).
Lim Yunseo, president of the Fitness MBA student council (9th class), stated, "We prepared this special lecture to support industry representatives who are struggling in an uncertain business environment. Going forward, the Sangmyung University Fitness MBA will continue to host management conferences and special lectures that benefit the industry."
