Claims the Sexual Encounter Was Consensual
A man in his 20s who sexually assaulted a colleague he met for the first time at a training center was sentenced to two years in prison.
On the 14th, the Cheonan Branch of the Daejeon District Court, 1st Criminal Division (Presiding Judge Jeon Gyeong-ho), sentenced Mr. A (26), who was charged with rape, to two years in prison. In addition, he was ordered to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program and was banned from working in institutions related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities for three years.
Mr. A was tried on charges of sexually assaulting a colleague at a local training center lodging on May 11, 2023. It is known that the victim and Mr. A met for the first time at a company dinner that evening. Mr. A claimed the sexual encounter was consensual, but the court did not accept this.

The court stated, "The crime is particularly egregious as the perpetrator took advantage of the victim, whom he met for the first time at a workplace training center, being unable to strongly resist," and added, "Despite this, he even filed a false accusation against the victim and showed no remorse, so a punishment commensurate with the guilt is necessary."
