Yeosu City Receives Positive Response for Monthly 200,000 Won Basic Birth Allowance
For Children Born After January 1 Last Year
The Basic Birth Allowance, implemented by Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jung Kimyung) from this year, is receiving a great response.
The Basic Birth Allowance is a welfare policy introduced by the city in January to address the low birth rate crisis and alleviate the burden of child-rearing. As of March, the total payment rate is 98%.
The recipients are children whose birth is registered in Jeollanam-do, and who have either the newborn or one of the guardians registered and residing in Yeosu. A total of 43.2 million KRW can be provided from ages 1 to 18.
Guardians, such as parents, can apply at the Eup, Myeon, or Dong Administrative Welfare Centers from one month before the child's first birthday (at 11 months old). Payments begin in the month of application, and retroactive payments are generally not allowed. The city is actively encouraging applications by sending notifications via mail or text message one month prior to eligibility to ensure all eligible children receive the allowance.
Mayor Jung Kimyung stated, "Childbirth is a joyous event for a family and a matter directly linked to the future of our community," adding, "We will do our best to create a better environment for having and raising children."
