Proposal for Climate Crisis Special Committee with Legislative Review Authority Passed in Plenary Session
Special Committees on Climate Crisis and APEC Summit Support Approved at Plenary Session
The National Assembly decided on the 13th to form a Special Committee on the Climate Crisis. It also decided to establish a Special Committee to support the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
On the same day, the National Assembly held a plenary session and approved the agenda to form the Climate Crisis Special Committee. The Climate Crisis Special Committee was established to comprehensively review the government's climate crisis-related measures, such as greenhouse gas reduction and carbon neutrality, and to devise plans to improve necessary systems and support related policies. The committee will consist of 20 members including the chairperson, with 11 from the Democratic Party, 7 from the People Power Party, and 2 from non-negotiating parties.
On the 13th, the partial amendment to the Commercial Act was passed at the plenary session of the National Assembly. The amendment expands the duty of directors from the existing 'company' to 'company and shareholders' and includes provisions mandating the introduction of electronic general meetings of shareholders for listed companies. View original imageThe Climate Crisis Special Committee will be granted legislative authority along with the right to provide opinions on the budget bill. The committee will have the authority to review and handle laws such as the "Framework Act on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth for Climate Crisis Response" and the "Act on Allocation and Trading of Greenhouse Gas Emission Permits." Additionally, it will have the authority to provide opinions to the National Assembly's Special Committee on Budget and Accounts regarding the operation plans of the Climate Response Fund.
The agenda to form the APEC Special Committee to support the successful hosting of the APEC Summit, scheduled to be held in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, at the end of October this year, was also passed. The APEC Special Committee will be composed of 10 members from the Democratic Party, 7 from the People Power Party, and 1 from a non-negotiating party.

Meanwhile, the ruling and opposition parties have tentatively agreed to form a Pension Special Committee to discuss reforms of the National Pension Service, but due to some disagreements, the agenda was not submitted to today's plenary session.
