Uijeongbu-si, Welcome a Safe New Semester with Flu Vaccination
Encouraging Influenza Vaccination
Focusing on Children and Adolescents
Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) has stepped up to encourage influenza vaccination, focusing on children and adolescents, as the new school semester begins on the 10th.
Experts have noted that while respiratory infectious diseases are generally declining as the winter season ends, diseases such as influenza, chickenpox, mumps, and pertussis may increase again after the start of the school term. This is a critical time to emphasize the importance of vaccination and adherence to preventive measures such as handwashing for a healthy school life.
The national support for influenza vaccination targets ▲children aged 6 months to 13 years ▲pregnant women ▲and seniors aged 65 and older. Eligible individuals can receive the vaccination at designated medical institutions nearby regardless of their registered residence until April 30.
School-age children and adolescents require caution to prevent respiratory infectious diseases due to indoor communal living after school starts. Although the 2024?2025 influenza season has shown an overall decline in cases recently, the incidence rate remains high among school-age children and adolescents.
Influenza typically experiences a major outbreak in winter and a slight resurgence after schools reopen in March, making influenza vaccination essential for children and adolescents who have not yet completed their vaccination.
