Goyang Special City conducted a survey on changes in public transportation usage and satisfaction with GTX-A for 7,200 Goyang citizens over seven days starting from the 7th, to develop improvement plans for GTX-A usage after its opening.

The results of the mobile satisfaction survey showed that citizens' satisfaction with GTX-A was very high at 90.2%.

Since its opening, the GTX-A line has been used by an average of about 20,000 Goyang citizens daily. Among the basic local governments with stations (excluding Seoul Station), it has the highest number of users, followed by Paju (Unjeong Jungang) and Hwaseong (Dongtan).

In particular, compared to the Suseo-Dongtan section that opened in March last year, the number of users from Unjeong Jungang to Seoul Station was more than three times higher.

In the survey, more than half (50%) of respondents cited improved accessibility to Seoul (increased leisure activities and shopping) as the best aspect after the opening of GTX-A. Saving commuting time (38.6%) was the next most cited benefit.

From the perspective of citizens experiencing GTX-A for the first time, the greatest advantage brought by the GTX-A transportation revolution is the “dramatic reduction in travel time.” Using GTX-A, the travel time from Kintex, which previously took more than 50 minutes, has been reduced to 16 minutes to Seoul Station. From Daegok Station, it takes only 11 minutes to reach Seoul Station.

The opening of GTX-A is also gradually changing the transportation usage patterns of Goyang citizens. Regarding changes in public transportation usage frequency after the opening of GTX-A, 42.2% of respondents answered that their usage frequency increased. As public transportation usage increases and private car usage decreases, it is expected to contribute to reducing carbon emissions and creating an eco-friendly green city.

On the other hand, respondents cited expensive fares (49%) and train intervals (12.9%) as the most inconvenient aspects of using GTX-A. GTX-A Operation Co. plans to add three train sets in the first quarter of this year, increasing the daily number of runs by 58 to a total of 282, and shorten the train intervals to six minutes during peak commuting hours.

Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, said, “With the opening of GTX-A, a transportation revolution in the metropolitan area, travel time has been dramatically shortened, making commuting more relaxed, and increasing the time spent with family in the mornings and evenings, allowing people to find more leisure in their daily lives.” He added, “GTX is expected to be a groundbreaking turning point that creates new economic opportunities beyond a simple transportation means, securing self-sufficient facilities such as the Economic Free Zone, K-Culture Valley, Goyang Video Valley, and Daegok Station Knowledge Convergence Complex, and attracting investment.”

Mayor Lee also stated, “We will do our best to quickly promote the currently ongoing Goyang Eunpyeong Line, Daejang Hongdae Line, and the planned extensions of Line 9 to Daegok and the express service on Line 3, to establish a more dense metropolitan transportation network.”
