Son in His 60s Arrested for Fatal Assault on Mother in Her 80s During Seollal
Police Request Autopsy from National Forensic Service
A man in his 60s has been arrested by police for beating his mother in her 80s to death during the Lunar New Year holiday.
Gwangju Dongbu Police Station announced on the 29th that they are investigating a 64-year-old man, identified as A, on charges of parricide for fatally beating his elderly mother with his fists.
A is accused of repeatedly striking the face of his mother, B, who was in her 80s, at their apartment in Hak-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju, at around 12:11 a.m. that day, resulting in her death.
Immediately after the crime, A informed a friend about what had happened, and was subsequently apprehended by police who responded to the friend's report.
The police are investigating the details and motive of the incident, based on family statements that B was suffering from dementia.
They also plan to apply for an arrest warrant for A and have requested an autopsy of B from the National Forensic Service.
