Jung Jang-seon, mayor of Pyeongtaek City, Gyeonggi Province, presented the 'artificial intelligence (AI)' industry as a new growth engine for the city's development.

View original imageMayor Jung evaluated, "Last year, advanced industries centered on semiconductors, hydrogen, and future cars were revitalized, and the city continuously grew through the establishment of various public infrastructures," emphasizing, "We will implement policies to continue this growth trend this year as well."
To this end, the city plans to create a more livable city through ▲stabilization of the livelihood economy ▲securing a foundation for advanced industries ▲strengthening welfare and education ▲overcoming the climate crisis ▲improving water quality ▲revitalizing culture ▲full-scale preparation for the AI era.
Mayor Jung particularly expressed his determination to "actively foster the AI industry starting this year," in addition to the city’s three core industries of semiconductors, hydrogen, and future cars. To this end, he announced plans to establish a dedicated AI department by March. The city’s strategy includes operating educational programs for citizens using AI, improving administrative tasks, and fostering high value-added industries.
In the field of urban development, the development of the 290,000㎡ Alpha Ammunition Depot site included in the Godeok New Town draws attention. Mayor Jung explained, "The ammunition depot site is expected to be relocated to a newly completed facility as early as the first quarter," adding, "Once the relocation is complete, we plan to immediately start construction for development." He further stated, "Through development, the Alpha Ammunition Depot site will be reborn as a representative cultural space not only for Pyeongtaek but for the Republic of Korea."
He also reaffirmed his commitment to taking care of the livelihood economy. To revitalize the economy, the city plans to strengthen the issuance of local currency and provide customized support for small business owners, youth, and vulnerable workers within the jurisdiction.

Mayor Jung said, "Although the new year has dawned, the political and economic situation of our country is not bright," but added, "I believe that if the resilience and united strength of our citizens, which have been demonstrated in times of crisis, are exerted, we can overcome the current dark situation." He continued, "Pyeongtaek has the potential to create new opportunities," emphasizing, "This year as well, we will carefully examine the lives and daily routines of citizens and listen more closely to their voices."
