Chungnam Province Aims to Attract 45 Trillion Won in Investment and Secure 12.3 Trillion Won in National Funding This Year
Governor Kim Taeheum Vows to Lead Provincial Administration
with a Spirit of Bold Innovation
Chungnam Province announced on the 20th that it will focus its administrative capacity this year on securing 12.3 trillion won in national funding and attracting 45 trillion won in investments.
Additionally, the province will address key issues such as the Daejeon-Chungnam administrative integration and the connection of the KTX high-speed railway to the West Coast Line. It will also support small business owners struggling due to political and economic conditions with 1.2 trillion won in policy finance and business stabilization funds.
On this day, the province unveiled its major business plan for 2025 at the provincial government’s main conference room, attended by Governor Kim Taeheum and others.
The province set five key tasks and decided to concentrate its administrative efforts on: △Reforming the structure and system of agriculture and rural areas △Leading the national carbon-neutral economy △Creating future growth engines for the next 50 and 100 years △Balanced development utilizing local characteristics and strengths △Implementing effective measures to address low birth rates.
For agricultural and rural structural reform, the province plans to complete 1.26 million pyeong of smart farms this year out of a total 2.5 million pyeong during the 8th popularly elected term, aiming to attract young farmers and establish a distribution support system so that young people can earn over 50 million won annually.
In addition, the province will activate the farmland transfer system for elderly retired farmers, transferring 130 hectares of farmland to young people, and promote projects such as 10 rural 'Live Together' zones (228 units) and rural housing projects to support young people’s settlement conditions.
For the convergence livestock complex integrating information and communications technology (ICT), the province will ensure local residents’ acceptance and promote its establishment in densely populated pig farming areas, and create an inland-type smart livestock complex pilot model in Nonsan. It also plans to modernize livestock facilities through a 1 trillion won livestock fund.
To lead the national carbon-neutral economy, the province will focus on accelerating the conversion of coal-fired power generation to hydrogen power, such as Boryeong hydrogen co-firing and Dangjin green hydrogen projects.
To facilitate the energy transition, the province will complete the Lotte Chemical hydrogen shipping center and build facilities utilizing biogas, aiming to increase hydrogen production from the current 396,000 tons to over 858,000 tons by 2030.
Furthermore, not only hydrogen power generation but also solar power facilities in industrial complexes and offshore wind farms in Boryeong and Taean will be expanded, increasing the share of renewable energy in industrial power consumption from 22% last year to 90% by 2035.
Additionally, the province will promote the conversion of high-carbon industries such as petrochemicals to low-carbon industries through the transformation of smart green industrial complexes, a special law to support areas where coal-fired power plants are closed, and the designation of energy industry convergence complexes.
The province will also introduce 1,200 hydrogen buses in the public sector and expand hydrogen charging stations to provide residents with convenient access to zero-emission vehicles.
To create future growth engines for the next 50 and 100 years, the province will focus on 20 tasks and 50 detailed projects this year, including the Bay Valley Tour Pass, attracting an industrial accident-specialized hospital, designating five districts in Cheonan, Asan, Seosan, and Dangjin as economic free zones, and launching an economic free zone authority.
Governor Kim Taeheum said, "Last year, we achieved record-breaking results and kept our promise to make it the inaugural year of remarkable progress," adding, "This year, with the spirit of bold innovation, we will respond proactively to change, take the lead in pioneering new paths, and drive the provincial administration forward."
He continued, "Let us not be swayed by the chaotic political situation and atmosphere, but focus solely on the residents and work unwaveringly to achieve this year’s administrative goals and maximize our results."
