‘Gangnam-gu Office Setec Relocation’… Oh Se-hoon “We Are Discussing Plans for Setec Site Utilization Well”
Mentioned at the Gangnam-gu New Year Meeting on the 16th
On the 16th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended the ‘2025 Gangnam-gu New Year Meeting’ to meet with local residents and introduce the direction of city administration, mentioning the issue of relocating the Gangnam-gu Office to the Seoul Trade Exhibition Center (SETEC).
At the New Year meeting held in the auditorium on the 3rd floor of COEX that afternoon, Mayor Oh said, “When I asked the Gangnam-gu mayor and residents, they said it would be helpful to quickly resolve the Gangnam-gu Office (relocation) issue,” adding, “We are discussing ways to utilize the SETEC site in a three-dimensional manner, so please wait.”
SETEC is the Seoul Trade Exhibition Center connected to Hakyeoul Station on Subway Line 3. Gangnam-gu originally wanted to develop this site into an ‘Administrative and Cultural Complex Town’ and relocate the 50-year-old Gangnam-gu Office building in Samseong-dong, but there had been disagreements with the Seoul city government. However, with Mayor Oh’s recent remarks, the stalled plan for constructing and relocating the district office is expected to gain momentum.

The SETEC site is 100% city-owned land. Gangnam-gu proposed exchanging the land of the Samseong-dong district office with part of the SETEC site to the city, but there were significant disagreements over the exchange ratio. The city initially planned to develop the SETEC site as a complex to establish it as a hub for international business and the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry.
