This project was designed to combine Korea's technological capabilities with the young and dynamic ASEAN region to strengthen ASEAN's digital capacity and create opportunities for joint growth between Korea and ASEAN.
This year, starting with Indonesia and Laos, 'Digital Academies' will be sequentially established in the 10 ASEAN countries. To support ASEAN's use and research of artificial intelligence (AI), a 'high-performance computing infrastructure' equipped with domestic neural processing units (NPU) will be built in Indonesia. Additionally, an annual 'AI Competition' will be held to support the discovery of innovative AI ideas among ASEAN startups and youth.
During the meeting, Vice Minister Kang will also hold talks with key countries to explore specific cooperation measures. In particular, a Korea-US-Japan trilateral meeting will be held to discuss ways to strengthen ASEAN cooperation among the three countries, as well as follow-up discussions on the 'International AI Safety Research Institute Network' meeting for global AI safety cooperation.
The Korea-US-Japan trilateral meeting was first held last year on the occasion of the ASEAN Digital Ministers' Meeting, and it is expected that the second meeting this year will establish a continuous cooperation network foundation in the digital and AI fields.
