Ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, Park Hye-jung, a weightlifting athlete from the Goyang Special City Hall Workplace Sports Team, generously donated 10 million KRW.
Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 16th that on the 15th, a donation ceremony was held at the open mayor's office in the city hall with the participation of Mayor Lee Dong-hwan, athlete Park Hye-jung, and representatives from the Gyeonggi Social Welfare Community Chest.

Athlete Park Hye-jung won a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, gaining national attention and affection, and greatly raised expectations for a gold medal at the next Olympics. She has also become a representative icon of Goyang Special City as a symbol of an athlete who overcomes adversity through relentless effort.
Park Hye-jung’s donation is expected to have a positive influence by spreading a culture of giving and raising awareness about low-income groups.
Park Hye-jung said, “The support and expectations of the people gave me great strength to perform well at the Paris Olympics. I hope this donation can, even in a small way, help Korean youth to nurture their dreams and envision their future without giving up despite difficult circumstances.”
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “Despite the challenging economic situation both domestically and internationally, I am heartened by this generous donation. I hope the precious funds you have sent will serve as an opportunity to instill courage and hope in youth facing difficulties. I also wish you great success in all upcoming competitions, bringing honor to Goyang Special City and the Republic of Korea.”
Meanwhile, at the event, Goyang City expressed strong support for the bid to host the 2036 Seoul Olympics.
