Attendance at the 2024-2025 Global Top Brand Awards
Chungnam Province announced on the 9th that Governor Kim Tae-heum attended the '2024-2025 Global Top Brand Awards' held at the Wynn and Encore Hotel in Las Vegas on the 8th (local time).
The 2024-2025 Global Top Brand Awards was jointly hosted by the Asia Digital Group (ADG), Europe Digital Group (EDG), and Twice, with sponsorship from the International Data Group (IDG).
This event was attended by Governor Kim, Steve S. Anthony, Lieutenant Governor of Nevada, Adam Goldstein, Vice President of Twice, Jan Lorbach, Director of GfK, Charles Zhang, CEO of China's Sohu, and about 100 others.
Governor Kim introduced Chungnam as the economic center of Korea, saying, "Chungnam is a leading export region with a high concentration of manufacturing companies, with about 330,000 companies in various fields ranging from high-tech industries such as semiconductors, displays, auto parts, and secondary batteries to consumer goods industries like cosmetics. The province currently records $100 billion in exports and ranks first in trade surplus."
He continued, "Chungnam, in particular, serves as a hub for the display and semiconductor industries and plays the role of the capital of the global advanced digital industry. The Asan-Cheonan Display Cluster is a base that simultaneously conducts research and development (R&D) and production, accounting for more than 20% of the world's production value."
He also emphasized, "Samsung Display plans to invest $2.8 billion by next year to establish the world's first 8.6-generation OLED dedicated line for IT at the Asan Campus, and Corning in the United States has decided to expand its advanced material development and manufacturing capabilities through continuous investment until 2028."
He then explained the investment agreement (MOU) signed last November with Samsung Electronics for the establishment of a new HBM semiconductor packaging line at the Cheonan plant.
Regarding the Bay Valley Mega City, the No. 1 project of the 8th popularly elected Chungnam government, Governor Kim stressed, "We plan to invest a total of $25 billion by 2050 to focus on fostering semiconductors, future mobility, advanced bio, and green hydrogen industries, and to create a space of innovation like Silicon Valley in the United States where companies will gather."
He added, "We are building a foundation for foreign direct investment and attracting outstanding global talent, and we are also preparing a regional electricity tariff system necessary for multinational companies so that they can achieve high returns with low-cost investments." He called for continued interest and investment in Chungnam.
