The Ministry of Science and ICT held the 'K-Quantum Square Meeting,' a communication and exchange platform in the quantum technology field, on the 9th at EL Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul. About 330 key figures and experts in quantum science and technology, including Lee Chang-yoon, 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, Kim Jae-wan, professor at the Institute for Basic Science, Jung Yeon-wook, professor at Sungkyunkwan University, corporate executives, and related researchers and workers, attended.

The K-Quantum Square Meeting has been held annually since 2021, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT, to share the latest trends in the quantum field and promote broad networking among members. Since last year, it has been held in January, also serving as a New Year's gathering for the quantum field.

This event was specially planned as the first exchange and communication venue in the quantum field for the new year, coinciding with the United Nations-designated International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). To assist researchers and workers from other fields interested in quantum science and technology to newly enter the field, related information and trends such as the global quantum ecosystem status were shared. Under the theme "Quantum Technology Transition: From Fascinating Science to Universal Technology," expert panel discussions and diverse networking events with quantum researchers were held.

On this day, the Ministry of Science and ICT explained the direction of the quantum-exclusive project worth 198 billion KRW, increased by 54.1% compared to last year, the quantum flagship project plan, the establishment of a comprehensive quantum plan following the enforcement of the Quantum Technology Industry Act, and the hosting of Quantum Korea, as well as the promotion direction of major policies and projects in quantum science and technology this year, and gathered feedback from stakeholders.

Vice Minister Lee said, "We will prepare major projects and policies such as the launch of the quantum flagship project and the establishment of the comprehensive quantum plan without delay," adding, "We will focus on making 2025 the inaugural year of quantum industrialization in Korea by laying the foundation for the industrialization of quantum technology, including early commercialization and demonstration, infrastructure and equipment construction, and corporate support."
