Air Premia Also Introduces SAF... Uses SK Energy Products
Mixed Refueling Once a Week on Japan Route
Hybrid airline Air Premia has introduced sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), an eco-friendly fuel.
On the 9th, Air Premia announced that starting from flight YP731 operating on the Incheon-Tokyo (Narita) route on the 3rd, it began blending SAF into its fuel supply.
This move follows the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's initiative last August to mandate a 1% blend of SAF in all international flights departing from Korea starting in 2027.
Air Premia plans to fuel its Narita-bound flights with 1% SAF every Friday for the next year. Afterwards, it intends to expand the use of SAF to other routes. The SAF used on the Narita route is a product of SK Energy, a domestic refinery.
SAF is an eco-friendly fuel that is not made from fossil fuels, is chemically similar to conventional aviation fuel, and can be used without structural modifications to aircraft. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), SAF can be blended with conventional aviation fuel and can reduce carbon emissions by approximately 80%.
In addition to introducing SAF, Air Premia has also adopted GE Aerospace's integrated software solution to reduce carbon emissions and stabilize operational efficiency.
