Gyeonggi-do Recorded 177 Days of 'Good' Fine Dust Levels Last Year... Best Since Measurements Began
Last year, the air quality in Gyeonggi Province was reported to be the "clearest" since the measurement of fine particulate matter (PM-2.5) began in 2015.
According to the Gyeonggi-do Institute of Health and Environment on the 3rd, the concentration of fine particulate matter in Gyeonggi Province has shown a continuous improvement trend: 26㎍/㎥ in 2019, 21㎍/㎥ in 2020, 21㎍/㎥ in 2021, 20㎍/㎥ in 2022, 21㎍/㎥ in 2023, and 18㎍/㎥ in 2024.
In particular, the number of days with a "Good" grade for fine particulate matter last year was 177 days, which is 11 days more than the 166 days recorded in 2022, when the air quality was the best.
The Institute of Health and Environment analyzed that the reduction in fine particulate matter was due to continuous air quality improvement policies (management of industrial, transportation, and residential emission sources) and favorable meteorological conditions.
This fine particulate matter measurement was conducted over one year from January to December last year at 110 urban air monitoring stations across 31 cities and counties in the province. The measurement results are expected to be finalized after review by the National Institute of Environmental Research in the first half of this year.
Gyeonggi Province plans to publish the "2024 Gyeonggi Province Air Quality Evaluation Report" in the second half of this year and disclose the fine particulate matter measurement data to residents on the Gyeonggi Province Air Quality Information Service website (air.gg.go.kr).

An official from the Institute of Health and Environment stated, "Since high concentrations of fine dust can occur due to meteorological conditions and foreign inflows such as yellow dust, we urge caution in health management by refraining from outdoor activities when air pollution alerts for fine dust, ozone, etc., are issued."
