No Separation Between Road and Sidewalk Calls for Improvement Measures in Geondae Mat Street Area
One-Way Traffic and Pedestrian Priority Road Designated, New Walkways Installed
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has completed the pedestrian environment improvement project on Hwayang-dong’s Geondae Mat-ui Street.
Geondae Mat-ui Street was a section without sidewalks, with no separation between pedestrian and vehicle lanes, allowing two-way traffic, which posed a high risk of accidents and required traffic improvement measures.
To address this, a residents’ briefing session was held, and the project was promoted through continuous communication with the merchants’ association and local residents.
From October 23, 2024, pedestrian environment improvement construction was carried out along a 610m section of Dongil-ro 22-gil, providing a safe and pleasant walking environment for the residents.
The road, which was previously a complex space where vehicles and pedestrians were mixed, was designated as a one-way street and pedestrian-priority road, and new sidewalks were installed on both sides of the road, enabling safe walking and contributing to the revitalization of the local commercial district.
