Ministry of Employment Issues Official Letter Supporting Leave for Families of Jeju Air Disaster Victims
Additional Official Letter Sent Upon Bereaved Family Application
The government will take measures to ensure that the bereaved families who have to hold funerals for the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster do not face difficulties in taking leave or leave of absence.
On the 2nd, the Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to send an official letter to related workplaces, urging them to actively provide and process the leave or leave of absence needed by the bereaved families.
This official letter targets workplaces where not only immediate family members but also relatives work. The Ministry of Employment and Labor will send the first official letter to workplaces employing 78 bereaved family members who have requested it. Additional letters will be sent if more applications are received. A ministry official explained, "Applications can also be made through local governments such as Jeonnam and Gwangju."

The bereaved families can use statutory leave such as family care leave in addition to paid annual leave. The Ministry of Employment and Labor will also recommend workplaces to allow bereaved families to use agreed leave for condolences and celebrations, which are determined through collective agreements between labor and management. The recommendations also include ensuring that there are no personnel disadvantages when returning to work after taking long-term leave or leave of absence.
