Frequent Inspections Planned for Senior Centers and Welfare Facilities
Jeollanam-do announced that it has allocated a total of 10.5 billion won in livelihood support funds entirely from the provincial budget to assist low-income vulnerable seniors during the severe cold season.
Considering that the government support for senior community centers (Gyeongrodang) is limited to rice purchases, Jeollanam-do plans to provide an additional 100,000 won per month for food expenses for three months, totaling 300,000 won, to 9,486 centers, including unregistered ones.

Even before the implementation of this livelihood support fund, Jeollanam-do has been providing a monthly heating allowance of 400,000 won and a rice allowance of 52,000 won to senior community centers.
In particular, staff members regularly visit facilities used by seniors, such as senior community centers and senior welfare centers, to directly check the sites and gather feedback from the elderly to ensure there are no difficulties in using the facilities during the winter cold wave.
Yu Munsun, president of the Gohung Seokchonye Gyeongrodang Senior Association, said, "As the financial situation becomes increasingly difficult at the end of the year, the food expenses and heating allowance provided by the province are a great help in getting through the harsh winter."
Lee Sangsim, Director of Health and Welfare at Jeollanam-do, said, "We are doing our best to come up with effective measures to ease the financial burden on seniors during winter and to ensure their health and safety."
