Franchise Stores Surpass 300,000 Last Year
Last year, the number of franchise stores exceeded 300,000 for the first time.
According to the 'Franchise (Affiliate) Survey Results' announced by Statistics Korea on the 24th, the number of franchise stores last year was 301,000, an increase of 5.2% compared to the previous year. This is the first time since related statistics began in 2013 that the number of franchise stores has surpassed 300,000.
Convenience stores were the most numerous with 55,000 stores (18.2%), followed by Korean food (50,000 stores, 16.6%), and coffee & non-alcoholic beverages (32,000 stores, 10.7%). Compared to last year, franchises increased in most sectors, including foreign food (13.6%), stationery stores (11.6%), and Korean food (10.3%).

The number of employees working at franchise stores was 1,012,000, up 7.4% from the previous year. Convenience store employees were the largest group with 211,000 (20.9%), followed by Korean food (169,000 employees, 16.7%) and coffee & non-alcoholic beverages (129,000 employees, 12.7%).
