First Domestic Approval of AI Medical Device Assisting in Depression Diagnosis
Quantifying Depression Probability Based on Interview Record Data
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 23rd that it approved a software medical device indicating the probability of depression (product name ACRYL-D01) on the 20th.
Developed by Acryl, an artificial intelligence (AI) specialized company, this product analyzes interview records between medical professionals and patients using AI to quantify the probability of depression, assisting psychiatrists in diagnosing depression. It is the first software in Korea approved for detecting depression.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety plans to actively work to expand treatment opportunities for diseases that have been difficult to diagnose and predict by supplying new AI-based software medical devices, based on regulatory science expertise.

An official from the Ministry stated, "Using the depression screening results predicted by this software, clinicians will be able to diagnose depression early in patients with depressive disorders and contribute to mental health management through continuous treatment."
