Penji Suspended from Competition Due to Sports Gambling Disciplinary Action
Severe Penalty for Betting on Golf Sports Gambling
2-Month Suspension and $2,500 Fine
Mako Penji (England) has been disciplined for issues related to golf sports betting.
The DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) announced on the 18th (local time) that "Penji has been suspended from competition for 2 months and fined $2,500 (approximately 3.6 million KRW)." Penji placed bets on golf tournaments. The disciplinary committee explained, "Since he bet on matches he did not participate in, there were no allegations of match-fixing or similar offenses." His punishment was reduced because he admitted wrongdoing during the investigation and cooperated actively.

Penji is ranked 414th in the world. Thanks to sinking a 1.5-meter par putt on the final hole of the second round at the DP World Tour Genesis Championship held last October at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Incheon, he advanced to the main event and barely retained his tour card for next year. His result in this tournament was tied for 22nd place.
