View original imageOn the 19th, Yoo Sang-im, Minister of Science and ICT, stated at the congratulatory speech of the ‘Asia AI Awards (AAA)’ hosted by Asia Economy that the AI Basic Act, which passed the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee on the 17th, "will achieve a balanced development of the AI industry and the establishment of a trust-based foundation."
Minister Yoo evaluated this year as the ‘Year of AI,’ citing examples such as AI technology contributing to Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry, and the fact that many of the top 10 global companies by market capitalization are AI companies. He then introduced key government policies, including the launch of the National AI Committee to strengthen competitiveness in the AI era.
Referring to the direction of the national AI strategy, he said, "We will significantly expand the national AI computing infrastructure so that AI companies and researchers can focus on research and development, and actively support the growth of AI companies through tax reductions and the creation of large-scale funds." Additionally, he emphasized, "We will spread AI throughout the nation to greatly create AI demand, and actively promote AI safety research cooperation with major countries centered on the ‘AI Safety Research Institute’ launched last month."

Minister Yoo concluded by saying, "I congratulate the representatives selected as innovative companies that have contributed to the development of Korea’s AI ecosystem," and added, "I hope that all Korean companies attending today will become leading players driving national growth in the AI era."
