Changwon Special City Holds Public Sculpture Review Committee Meeting
Deliberation on the Proposal for the Construction of the Vietnam War Participation Memorial Tower and Others
On the 17th, Changwon City in Gyeongnam held the Changwon City Public Sculpture Review Committee, consisting of 10 experts including public officials, city council members, professors, and architects, to systematically install and efficiently manage public sculptures.
To prevent the proliferation of public sculptures, Changwon City enacted the "Ordinance on the Establishment and Management of Public Sculptures in Changwon City" in 2015, which sets standards for establishment and management. Through committee reviews, matters related to the installation, relocation, and removal of public sculptures are decided. Currently, Changwon City manages 323 public sculptures, including various monuments, memorial towers, and sculptures.
At this review committee meeting, two agenda items were reviewed: the installation of a memorial tower for Vietnam War veterans in the Changwon area and the installation of a sculpture commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Seochangwon Lions Club.
The reviewers presented various opinions on whether the sculptures align with the region's identity and history, possess artistic value, and symbolize public value.
