This evaluation comprehensively assessed the Saemaeul Movement activities carried out over one year by 22 cities and counties in Gyeongbuk across three categories: ▲work promotion and support system ▲implementation activities ▲special policies and best practices. In particular, the evaluation measured performance and interest through various indicators such as the preservation efforts of Saemaeul organizations and groups, environmental conservation campaigns, the Happy Home project, revitalization of the Saemaeul Library, and the establishment of overseas pilot villages.
Gumi City received high marks for its formation and activities of the Youth Saemaeul Coalition, strengthening the capabilities of Saemaeul leaders, and strong interest in work promotion. Additionally, achievements in the Saemaeul Movement at both the community and global levels were recognized, including the ‘Saemaeul Thrifty Flea Market’ which celebrated its 100th event in October, sharing kimchi for love, the Saemaeul Day commemorative event, and the creation of overseas pilot villages.
At the event, the Gumi City Saemaeul Association and the Gumi City Saemaeul Women’s Association received encouragement awards in the Gyeongbuk Province Cities and Counties Saemaeul Association evaluation. Furthermore, Lee Ji-hyun, head of the Saemaeul Traffic Volunteer Corps in Gumi City, was awarded the Prime Minister’s Commendation; Lee Seung-young, director of the Saemaeul Association, received the Saemaeul Grand Prize (Governor of Gyeongbuk Province Commendation); and Chae Jeong-hee, vice president of the Saemaeul Library Doryang-dong Branch, was honored with the Gyeongbuk Province Saemaeul Association President’s Commendation, demonstrating Gumi City’s strong capabilities.
