Dongduk Women's University Student Council Lifts Main Building Occupation After 23 Days... "Doing Our Best for Democratic Dongduk"

View original imageOn the 4th, the Dongduk Women’s University Student Council announced in an urgent notice posted on social media (SNS), "The occupation of the main building, which continued until early this morning, has been decided to be lifted because the university administration has classified it as an illegal act." This comes 23 days after the occupation protest began on the 11th of last month.
The Student Council stated, "We had a discussion with the Director of Planning and the Director of Student Affairs in front of the main building regarding the occupation. We requested a meeting with the administration to discuss the Student Council’s demands, and a meeting is expected to be arranged soon." They added, "From now on, we will lift the occupation of the main building and, after meeting with the university administration regarding our demands, we will inform the students. The Student Council will do its best for a democratic Dongduk."
The Student Council also issued an additional notice titled 'Guidance on Legal Responsibility and Support.' They said, "Currently, a criminal lawsuit has been filed based on six charges, including joint property damage and joint trespassing of a building." They added, "Legal support will be provided to students who receive summons or other lawsuit-related communications regarding the on-campus incident." However, they also noted, "For criminal lawsuits filed due to additional individual actions beyond the six charges mentioned, the responsibility of the Student Council is unclear, so it is difficult for the Student Council to make a judgment or decision."

Earlier, on the 28th of last month, the school filed a provisional injunction with the Seoul Northern District Court to order the eviction of students occupying the main building and to prohibit obstruction of business. Additionally, on the 29th of last month, the school filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency against the Student Council president and other students on charges including joint property damage and joint trespassing of a building.
