Gangseo-gu Begins Construction of Large Senior Welfare Center in Magok District... Opening in April 2026
Operation of Cafeteria, Health and Counseling Rooms
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) is building a large senior welfare center in the Magok district that can accommodate more than 1,000 elderly people daily. Construction will begin this month, with the goal of opening in April 2026.
The Magok Senior Welfare Center will be constructed on 743-2 Magok-dong, with a total floor area of 2,732㎡, spanning from one basement floor to four above-ground floors. Currently, there are five senior welfare facilities in Gangseo-gu, including one municipal facility, serving an average of 2,752 users daily. However, there has been a continuous demand for a suitable senior welfare facility in the Magok district, where none currently exist.
The welfare center will include amenities such as a cafeteria, senior dining hall, program rooms, counseling rooms, and a health promotion room, providing leisure, cultural, and welfare facilities suited for the aging era. The construction of the welfare center is being promoted as a community welfare facility donation from the E-Land Global R&D Center (146 Magokdong-ro) within the Magok General Industrial Complex. Following a residents' briefing session in February to incorporate local residents' opinions into the design, an agreement was signed with the E-Land Consortium in August to accelerate the construction process.
Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon stated, “We expect the Magok Senior Welfare Center to become a space for welfare services such as health, leisure, and cultural arts activities for the elderly, as well as a place for communication and happiness through community.” He added, “We hope the welfare center supporting the vibrant senior life will become a new landmark in the dynamic Magok district.”
