Gwanak-gu, First Nationwide to Provide 300,000 Won Growth and Childcare Support Fund for Ages 2-4
Nation's First ▲2nd ▲3rd ▲4th Child Rearing Household Growth Support Fund of 300,000 KRW Payment
Full Effort to Alleviate Economic Burden on Infant and Toddler Care Families and Establish Practical Measures to Overcome Low Birthrate
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) will provide the nation’s first-ever ‘Kkangchung Kkangchung Growth Childcare Support Fund’ to households with infants and toddlers residing in the district to alleviate parents’ childcare burdens and improve the childcare environment.
To implement a realistic policy in the era of low birth rates, the district established the Seoul Gwanak-gu Kkangchung Kkangchung Growth Childcare Support Fund Ordinance in April this year and secured a supplementary budget of 1 billion KRW.
Accordingly, starting from the 1st of this month, the district will provide an annual growth childcare support fund of 300,000 KRW (Gwanak Love Gift Certificates) once a year to households raising infants and toddlers aged ▲2 ▲3 ▲4 years old.
The issued gift certificates can be used at various types of businesses within the district’s Seoul Love Gift Certificate affiliated stores, including ▲restaurants ▲marts ▲hospitals ▲pharmacies ▲cultural ▲educational services, excluding certain sectors such as entertainment establishments.
Applicants must meet both of the following two conditions.
First, the infant or toddler must have been born between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2022, based on the year 2024, and must be registered as a resident and actually residing in Gwanak-gu.
Also, the guardian must have been registered as a resident and actually residing in Gwanak-gu for at least six months prior to the date the infant or toddler becomes eligible for support.
The application method is primarily online through the ‘Government24 (Bojogeum24)’ website. If online application is difficult, applicants may visit the local community service center in their jurisdiction to apply. However, households wishing to apply must do so within six months from the date the infant or toddler becomes eligible for support.
In particular, to mark the start of the program this year, the district plans to accept applications until April 30, 2025, only from households raising infants and toddlers who turned 2 to 4 years old between January 1 and October 31, 2024.
Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “We support all parents raising our children, the future leaders. We hope that the growth childcare support fund, proactively introduced by the district, will provide some economic assistance to families raising infants and toddlers in the area.” He added, “Gwanak-gu will continue to make every effort to prepare and overcome the low birth rate issue.”
