Seongbuk-gu Public Health Center Receives Disease Control Agency Director Award for National Tuberculosis Control Project
Selected as the Best Institution in the 'Family Contact Investigation' Category
Seongbuk-gu, Seoul announced on the 6th that the Seongbuk-gu Public Health Center (Director Hwang Wonsuk) received the Director of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Award in recognition of its improved tuberculosis patient treatment success rate and thorough tuberculosis management achievements.
The Seongbuk-gu Public Health Center was selected as the best institution in the "Family Contact Investigation" category at the "2024 Private-Public Cooperation Tuberculosis Management Project Evaluation Contest" hosted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. The "Private-Public Cooperation Tuberculosis Management Project" is a program in which the government and private medical institutions cooperate to thoroughly manage tuberculosis patients until treatment completion. Since its inception in 2011, it has significantly contributed to the reduction of tuberculosis incidence in Korea.

View original imagePrior to this contest, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency evaluated tuberculosis management-related activities and achievements over one year, including tuberculosis patient management, customized case management, patient reporting, epidemiological investigation, and family contact investigation, targeting medical institutions nationwide participating in the project. As a result of the evaluation, five public health centers nationwide were selected as the best institutions, with Seongbuk-gu Public Health Center being the only one in Seoul.
The Seongbuk-gu Public Health Center received high praise for establishing a foundation that enables early examination and effective treatment of tuberculosis patients' families and close contacts, achieving outstanding results in family contact examination rate, treatment initiation rate, and treatment completion rate.
Hwang Wonsuk, Director of Seongbuk-gu Public Health Center, emphasized, "This award is the result of the passion of the staff, cooperation with the local community, and active participation of residents," adding, "Through family contact investigations, we were able to reaffirm the importance of tuberculosis management."
