Sejong Police Agency Arrests Two for Growing Marijuana in the Mountains
The Sejong Police Agency announced on the 24th that it had arrested Mr. A (57) and Ms. B (61) on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act for illegally cultivating cannabis in remote mountain areas of Sejong and Gongju.
According to the police, the suspects illegally cultivated 67 cannabis plants and stored 2.3 kg of harvested cannabis leaves and 57 g of seeds in their apartment’s kimchi refrigerator, shoe cabinet, and outdoor unit.
The police investigation revealed that the market value of the cannabis they cultivated was approximately 340 million won, which is enough for about 4,600 people to use at the same time.
The police are currently investigating the distribution channels and users of the cannabis, and plan to actively recover any illegal proceeds.
A police official stated, “Unless you are an authorized handler of narcotics, cultivating, possessing, or storing cannabis is strictly prohibited,” and added, “If you witness or suspect illegal cultivation or possession of cannabis, please report it to the police.”
