Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will hold the third reading culture festival of the year, the 'October Book Camp,' on the 25th and 26th at Seocho Chaeginneun Street (from the National Library of Korea to Seorae Park). This event, themed 'Book Camping with Books,' offers a variety of reading culture programs that can be enjoyed both day and night, perfectly suited to the cool autumn weather.
On the 25th, around Seorae Park, the atmosphere of camping will be fully created with a 'Book Lounge' offering simple snacks and sangria, and a 'Book Camping Garden' where visitors can read in camping chairs and Indian tents. Those who post photos of themselves reading, tagged with 'Seocho Chaeginneun Street' on social media (SNS), can receive free book gifts.
Additionally, star lecturer Kim Mi-kyung will hold a book talk on the theme 'How to Meet a Better Me Every Day with Books.' Other planned activities include making initial bookmarks, stamp art experiences, and jazz music performances that fill the autumn evening with emotion.
On the 26th, reading culture programs to enjoy the autumn daytime will be prepared. At the National Library of Korea’s stair plaza, a book camping experience space will be set up where participants can try ▲making 3D paper tents ▲creating camping lanterns using used books ▲making colorful foam camping nameplates. Also, 100 fifth and sixth-grade elementary students will compete in knowledge by reading five selected books in the 'Seoripul Reading Golden Bell,' and an award ceremony will be held to select 25 families who actively used Seocho-gu libraries this year as 'Seocho Reading Families.'
At Seorae Park, popular authors Jung Yoo-jung and Lee Ji-eun will hold book concerts, and various programs will continue throughout the distance from the National Library of Korea to Seorae Park. Booths such as ▲'Our Family One-Pyeong Bookstore,' selling books that are sleeping at home ▲'Seoripul Book Market,' where used books can be donated and exchanged for other desired books ▲and 'Neighborhood Bookstore,' offering a book payback service where customers can get a refund if they return purchased books within three weeks, will be operated.
In particular, this Book Camp has prepared various special events commemorating the Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to author Han Kang. For Han Kang, who also operated the independent bookstore 'Chaekbang Oneul' in Seocho-gu, visitors can write congratulatory postcards and spin a lucky roulette to possibly 'score' the author’s books.
