Crowdworks: "Interpreter AI Reduces Serious Industrial Accidents"

Interpreter artificial intelligence (AI) capable of resolving communication issues is expected to help prevent serious industrial accidents at construction sites.
On October 14, Kim Wooseung, CEO of AI tech company Crowdworks, stated at the 'Korea Industrial AI Joint Forum' hosted by the Korea Industrial Technology Association at El Tower in Yangjae-dong, "The proportion of foreign workers among fatalities at construction sites is significantly high due to communication problems," and emphasized, "To prevent serious industrial accidents, interpreter AI tailored to the unique characteristics of the construction and shipbuilding industries is necessary."
At construction sites with large numbers of multinational foreign workers, it is common to find that, despite the high-risk nature of the work, communication barriers prevent the use of walkie-talkies, leading workers to rely on hand signals instead. The rate of industrial accidents involving foreign workers at construction sites is high. According to data from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the proportion of fatal accidents among foreign workers is four times higher than that of domestic workers.
Crowdworks has developed interpreter AI specialized for construction and shipbuilding sites. It supports 15 languages and is recognized as a highly sophisticated interpreter AI, having undergone more than one million verifications. The Crowdworks AI interpreter app was developed based on a construction domain-specific dataset built using terminology from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, and on-site glossaries.

A Crowdworks representative pointed out, "Existing translation apps often mistranslate construction site terms, such as translating 'work platform' (malbigae) as 'horse,' or 'shore' (dongbari) as 'diagram' or simply using the Korean pronunciation." The representative added, "The interpreter AI developed by Crowdworks resolves these issues, achieving over 90% accuracy and satisfaction in on-site worker tests."
