Allegations of Primary Election Interference Called "Unverified Revelations"
Emphasizes Agreement on Primary Rules and Denies Possibility of Illicit Intervention
Stresses Need for Unity to Overcome Party Crisis
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon strongly criticized People Power Party lawmaker Na Kyung-won for raising suspicions that Myung Tae-kyun interfered in the party's primary election. He warned, "Internal strife in times of crisis leads to mutual destruction."
On the 11th, Mayor Oh posted on his Facebook, "Before the 2021 Seoul mayoral by-election primary began, representatives from all candidates, including Na Kyung-won's side, attended and agreed on the primary rules, which were approved by the Public Official Election Commission and the Emergency Committee," denying the possibility of unfair interference.
He said, "The whole country is in turmoil due to Myung Tae-kyun's completely unverified revelations, and public political disgust has reached its peak," criticizing some media outlets for manipulating and reproducing Myung's statements to fuel confusion.
Furthermore, Mayor Oh added, "Public sentiment toward our party is colder than ever," and expressed his dismay and despair at "those holding important party positions or senior members citing the one-sided claims of Myung, who is under prosecution investigation as a suspect, to engage in factionalism and internal strife for their own political gain."
Finally, Mayor Oh emphasized, "It is time to face the crisis, restore the people's trust, and come together with a spirit of putting the party before oneself to pool our wisdom."
Earlier, lawmaker Na Kyung-won raised suspicions of primary interference through her Facebook, stating, "I heard that Myung was involved in the 2021 party leadership election."
