Hasu Young and Choi Sieun Named 'Stars Who Shined Ulsan'
Exhibition of 27 Works at Ulsan Culture and Arts Center, June 17-20
The city of Ulsan announced on the 8th that "The Stars That Lit Up Ulsan" by Ha Suyoung and Choi Sieun was selected as the grand prize winner at the 14th Ulsan Public Design Contest.
This contest, held under the theme "Ulsan, the City of Dreams: Construction Site Temporary Fence Design," aimed to fill temporary construction site fences installed throughout Ulsan with creative and entertaining designs to improve the urban landscape and create a "Fun City Ulsan."
A total of 37 entries were submitted from across the country during the contest period, which ran from September 11 to 13.
After the final judging and verification process for the submitted works, the city of Ulsan selected a total of 27 winning entries, including one grand prize, two gold prizes, two silver prizes, and two bronze prizes.
The grand prize-winning work, "The Stars That Lit Up Ulsan," is a new form of public design that combines visual art embodying Ulsan’s history and culture with LED line lighting.
This work was evaluated as a piece that instills pride in Ulsan citizens by depicting seven distinguished figures who illuminated Ulsan, as well as Soldo and Ganjeolgot, as part of an overall visual art composition, and expressing the Bangudae Petroglyphs and whales as stars flowing in the night sky, thus combining Ulsan’s people and natural features.
The judges commented, "Many of the entries in this contest skillfully combined and expressed Ulsan’s beautiful natural scenery, notable figures, and industrial landscape. All the works were excellent designs that could contribute to enhancing the cityscape."
An Ulsan city official stated, "We thank all participants for submitting high-quality works utilizing Ulsan’s people, nature, and industrial landscape, and we look forward to your continued interest and participation next year."
