Hyundai Rotem Wins Contract for Unmanned Transport Equipment Supply Project at Gwangyang Port
Supply of 44 AGVs and Control Systems by 2029
Hyundai Rotem is strengthening its competitiveness in the advanced smart logistics business by winning a contract to supply unmanned automated guided vehicles (AGVs) for the automated quay at Gwangyang Port. The company reorganized its structure and built an automation equipment portfolio to enhance its capabilities as a comprehensive logistics automation system solution provider, resulting in successful contract awards.

On the 7th, Hyundai Rotem announced that it had won the contract for the production and supply of automated quay AGVs at Gwangyang Port, ordered by Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority. The contract amount is approximately 82.8 billion KRW. AGVs are unmanned vehicles that automatically transport cargo to designated locations and are key equipment for port logistics automation.
Hyundai Rotem plans to supply 44 port AGVs, including a control system and chargers, along with related infrastructure equipment by 2029.
The AGVs supplied by Hyundai Rotem are large port AGVs measuring 16 meters in length, 3 meters in width, and 2.3 meters in height. They can transport containers weighing up to 65 tons. Operating on an electric drive system, they can run for 8 hours with just a 30-minute charge using a high-speed charging system.
The antenna installed on the AGV and the transponder sensors embedded in the port floor communicate in real time to enable precise operation. LiDAR sensors mounted on the front and rear detect obstacles to prevent collisions.
Hyundai Rotem’s independently developed control system allows AGVs to organically transport cargo and optimize travel routes based on algorithms.
Hyundai Rotem has been strengthening its capabilities as a comprehensive logistics automation system solution provider. In 2020, it established the Smart Logistics Business Division and built a diverse automation equipment portfolio including AGVs, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and automated warehouses. As a result, last year, it supplied 60 AGVs and related infrastructure to Pier 7 of Busan New Port.
