Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan International Architecture Festival Organizing Committee (Executive Chairperson Lee Sungho) will hold a public presentation for the "Busan Metropolitan City Special Architectural Zone Revitalization Pilot Project" on the 18th at 10 a.m. in the city hall main auditorium.
This event will serve as the final evaluation for the designated special architectural zones, and world-renowned architects?including architectural firms that have won the Pritzker Prize, often referred to as the Nobel Prize of architecture?will participate in the presentations.
The "Busan Metropolitan City Special Architectural Zone Revitalization Pilot Project" is a city initiative aimed at constructing harmonious and creative buildings designed by world-class architects.
Once designated as a special architectural zone, benefits such as relaxed building regulations are granted to enable the realization of innovative designs.
During this presentation, global architects will publicly present and be evaluated on their designs for the six candidate sites of the "Special Architectural Zone Revitalization Pilot Project."
The candidate sites were initially selected through the "Future Architecture Innovation Committee" held last July.
The specific candidate sites and the world-renowned architects participating in each project are: ▲Namcheon 2 District Redevelopment Project - Dominique Perrault Architecture (DPA) ▲Nampo-dong Mixed-use Town - MVRDV ▲Mipo Oceanside Hotel - OMA ▲Yeongdo Collective Hills - MVRDV ▲Yongdugol Complex Facility - 2Portzamparc ▲Banyeo Officetel - Meier Partners.
The six teams will each have 20 minutes for their presentations and 20 minutes for Q&A, following a predetermined order.
The results of the evaluation will be announced on the city’s design competition website on the 22nd.
Applications to attend the public presentation can be submitted online starting at 10 a.m. on October 8, with the first 500 applicants accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
The presentation and evaluation process will be broadcast live on the official YouTube channel of the Busan International Architecture Festival on the day of the event.
For more information on online applications and other details, please refer to the Busan International Architecture Festival website or contact the festival’s secretariat.
Ha Seongtae, Director of Housing and Architecture at the city, stated, “The ‘Special Architectural Zone Revitalization Pilot Project’ will play a crucial role in Busan’s leap as a ‘global hub city.’ We hope that the creative designs of world-renowned architects, combined with the collaboration of local architects, will result in innovative and beautiful buildings.”
