Joo Seyoung Officer Wins Top Award for Cost Reduction in Waste Wood Management
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced on the 27th that it has selected and awarded five public officials who demonstrated proactiveness and expertise as Outstanding Proactive Public Officials for the first half of 2024.
The Outstanding Proactive Public Official award system was established to select and reward exemplary public officials who practice proactive administration in order to spread a culture of proactive governance within the public sector. Every year, the district evaluates the performance of all employees and provides incentives to the selected officials.
In the first half of this year, a total of 16 outstanding cases were submitted. After performance verification, a preliminary review by seven judges including the audit officer and team leaders from each department, and a final review by nine personnel committee members, five officials were selected as outstanding public officials: one grand prize winner, two excellence awardees, and two encouragement awardees.
The grand prize winner, Joo Se-young, an administrative officer from the Cleaning Administration Division, was recognized for “Practicing ESG Administration through the Circular Use of Waste Wood.” She actively discovered waste wood recycling companies, reducing waste wood disposal costs and contributing to resource circulation for environmental protection through recycling.
Kim Hyun-jung from the Disaster Safety Division and Lee Seung-min from the Digital Information Division received excellence awards. Officer Kim expanded the coverage of the citizen safety insurance from a fixed amount to general injury medical expenses, while Officer Lee introduced an “AI chatbot” to provide 24-hour civil service through the Gangbuk-gu website, enhancing resident satisfaction and administrative efficiency.
For the encouragement awards, Han Se-hyuk from the Elderly and Disabled Division, who promoted the “Disability-Friendly Beauty Salon Project” providing beauty services for people with disabilities, and No Eun-jung from the Housing Maintenance Division, who expanded the “Public Lawyer Observation System for Small-Scale Housing Maintenance Projects” to ensure fair resident decision-making, were selected.
The district plans to present commendations and provide incentives such as monetary rewards and special leave to all selected officials.
