Kim Geon-hee, wife of President Yoon Suk-yeol, visited the National Library of the Czech Republic on the 20th (local time) to observe a demonstration of ancient book restoration.
Kim Tae-hyo, First Deputy Director of the National Security Office, conveyed this fact during a briefing at the local press center in the Czech Republic, stating, "The demonstration introduced the value of hanji, noted for its durability and delicate flexibility, to the Czech Republic."
President Yoon and Mrs. Kim are on an official visit to the Czech Republic from the 19th to the 22nd for a 2-night, 4-day schedule.
This event was held to commemorate the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 'Ancient Document and Manuscript Restoration Technology Exchange' between the National Library of Korea and the National Library of the Czech Republic, coinciding with President Yoon's official visit to the Czech Republic.

Deputy Director Kim said, "Following the Louvre Museum in France and the Vatican Museums in Italy, hanji is expected to be widely used in ancient document restoration in the Czech Republic as well, contributing to the Korean government's efforts to register hanji as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity."
