Issuance of UNESCO Cultural Heritage Commemorative Stamp for 'Hansan Mosijjagi'
The Korea Post announced on the 19th that it will issue a 'UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity' commemorative stamp featuring Hansan Mosi weaving in Seocheon, Chungnam.
The commemorative stamp depicts the process of 'Mosi weaving,' where a woman sits at a loom making Mosi fabric, and 'Mosi nalgi,' where Mosi thread skeins are unwound to create warp thread bundles.
Hansan Mosi weaving is a traditional Mosi weaving technique from Hansan-myeon, Seocheon-gun, Chungnam. Mosi is a traditional fabric made from threads obtained from the natural plant Mosi, and its legacy has continued for over 1,500 years since the Three Kingdoms period.
Hansan Mosi weaving, which requires considerable time and effort, has been passed down mainly by women over many years. It was designated as a National Intangible Cultural Property in 1967 and registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2011.
