Police Conduct Search and Seizure at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital Over Allegations of Assisting Unlicensed Surgery
The police have launched a forced investigation into the suspicion of 'proxy artificial joint surgery' at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital.
On the 9th, the Gangseo Police Station in Seoul announced that they conducted a search and seizure against Professor A of the Plastic Surgery Department at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital on charges including violation of the Medical Service Act.
Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital has been under suspicion since July that a medical device company salesperson replaced artificial joint components during surgery.
Under current law, it is not illegal for medical device company employees to enter the operating room, but if unlicensed medical practice is performed, both the person who performed it and the person who instructed it are punished.
